Case study 02

Venue Search London

A B2B venue marketplace and the business engine behind it. Twelve years of continuous development for the same client, spanning everything from search to advertising to invoicing.

Venue Search London is a long-standing client. We’ve built and maintained their venue marketplace and the business engine behind it since 2013. The public site is where event planners and corporate teams find London venues for conferences, dinners, weddings, anything you can think of. The admin behind it is where the VSL team turns enquiries into bookings and runs the rest of the business.

The product has evolved a lot over twelve years. What started as a venue directory now includes a paid advertising layer (venues run promoted listings with impression and click tracking), an affiliate programme for referral partners, full Xero integration for invoicing the catering side, and a substantial admin for the team running it day-to-day.

There’s no enterprise search engine in here. The venue catalogue isn’t enormous, so database queries do the job, and that keeps the infrastructure simple. Most of the work over the last decade has been in the back office: the leads pipeline, revenue reporting, advertising performance, billing workflows. The unglamorous parts that keep the business running.

The engagement has outlasted entire technology eras. Twelve years in, the codebase is still in active development most weeks.
